If we were born in this world with the concept of "Good" or "Bad" is different depending on your country, religions or culture. In some part of the world eating beef is an offence, while in other parts of the world it's part of their culture, with this simple example we can see the differences between us. But can this difference explain why we are what we are today? Today we are living in a world that has already begun to collapse, we use more than what we have, with change climate water becomes scarce, it is winter when it used to be summer and this everywhere. Today we have discussions about how many people can live on this world?
This is the world that we are living in, our world cannot feel the connection because we are so different, with different cultures and different ways of belief, because of this it is very difficult to fix the problems we have in our world. This is the perfect excuse to do nothing, for us to unconsciously think that the task of changing the world is not for us, we think this is the work for superior people, almost like a superhero that can unite and fight evil. Someone who is morally superior, able to guide us on the path to happiness.
But is this not a bit childish?, its like listening to a fairy tale or science fiction story that at the last moment, when the earth will be destroyed, someone comes and saves us. But we all know that this is far from reality, but it is amazing how disconnected people can be from reality, knowing that our world is dying, not doing anything, because of the excuse that it is someone else’s problem. We often say "big companies are the problem", "It is the USA who must change", but change depends on us, we are the people that give power to industries and we make up society.
The issue, to stop thinking that the problem is everybody elses. We need to begin to understand that we are responsible for everything that happens to us, and it is here that I want to start talking about the real meaning of being a leader, a leader is not a person with super-powers, or an alien who has an in-human ability to make big changes, rather, it is a person who is very human. A leader is characterized as outgoing, connecting with people through words and feelings, is able to direct and plan, be charismatic, which are among the most important. As a leader would you be someone who doesn’t know who they are?
This idea of a superhero is another unconscious mechanism that we use to justify doing nothing. A leader, is a person who achieves, inspires people to achieve, someone you enjoys life, these things are all we need to start being leaders, Even if we are not a leaders who guide, we can still be a leaders of change. This is the change we need, because no matter what we understand, no matter we handle the different concepts of right and wrong, or of what are the correct traditions, or if we agree or not, we can still come together through small acts, we can show respect for each of our lives and lifestyles, with freedom we can also follow. We will be able to respect each other and motivate this ideology daily, we will enjoy every day and shine with happiness to follow our objectives, which in itself, will be imitated in the infinite chain that delivers the joy of living.
Some of our leaders as such, leave us many lessons, including fantastic phrases that can inspire us to understand what it means to really be a leader.
Let me quote Mahatma Gandhi. He was a Lawyer, Indian political thinker and Hindu. Since 1918 he was in front of the Indian nationalist movement. It introduced innovative methods of social struggle such as the hunger strike, which rejected armed struggle and preached of ahimsa (non-violence) as a means to resist British rule. "Many people, especially the ignorant, want to punish you for telling the truth, being right, for being you. Never apologize for being correct, or being years ahead of your time. If you're right and you know it talk to your right. Even if you are a minority of one, truth is still the truth". "Almost everything you do will be very insgnificante, but it is very important that you do".
Nelson Mandela Was a lawyer, an activist against Apartheid, South African politician and philanthropist who served as president of his country in the period from 1994 to 1999. He was the first black president who led the executive branch, and also the first to be chosen by vote universal in their country. His government dismantled the social structure and the political legacy of apartheid through combat of institutionalized racism, poverty and social inequality, and promoted social reconciliation. "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." "The greatness of life consists not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." "If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner."
Fidel Castro. He was a soldier, revolutionary, statesman and political Cuban. He was president of his country as prime minister (1959-1976) and President (1976-2008). He was also commander of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (1956-2008) and held power as first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 1965-2011. "You, with extraordinary affection, attribute great merits to your leaders. I know that no man has exceptional merit and that every day we receive the most humble companions great lessons." "I reject the lie because I know that ignorance was the great ally of oppression throughout history." "Being internationalist is to pay our own debt to humanity. Whoever is incapable of fighting for others will never be sufficiently capable of fighting for himself."
Samora Machel Born September 29, 1933, Xilembena, Mozambique - October 19, 1986, Nkomati, South Africa, was the president of Mozambique between 1975 and 1986. "They will try to be born here in Mozambique black capitalists, the so-called national bourgeoisie. We do not want it here, there is no place for explorers here. Black or white cannot exploit the people. The duty of each of us is to give everything to the people, we the last when it comes to benefits, prime when it comes to sacrifices. that's what's serve the people." "Corruption material, moral and ideological, bribery, the pursuit of comfort, wedges, nepotism, is the favors friendship base, and in particular give preference in employment to their relatives, friends or people in your region are part of the system of life that we are destroying".
These examples are typical people, some military, some lawyers or just fighters who believed in change, perseverance and especially that it is people who are the force of power, it is the ordinary people who have the ability to lead the movements that give dignity to the people. They spoke of creating new eras, they remembered today for their struggle, as they believed, when people stopped believing, they gave the people the power to believe and fight.
It is not about don't have, it is about using what we do have to do more, to make the change we need, it is to see what you have to do and what we need to do. Being a charismatic leader is more than just intending to be so, these people only work with the faith of an ideal of life that they unintentionally spread to others, it is transmitted as an energy that unites people no matter how different they they are in search of a common goal.
We expect a leader to be the leader of a great revolution, maybe to go and end world hunger, but it is clear that this is not possible. Each person can do smaller actions that make change and spread a message that will create the revolution that we need. With this understanding, being a leader may sound very risky and somewhat impossible for someone with a normal life but it can be easier than it seems. It may simply mean living according to what we believe and think. Going and spreading what we want for this world, and maybe start our own revolution in our homes, neighborhoods, communities ... town!
In my case, unwittingly, I became Vegan 12 years ago, I realized that many of my friends and acquaintances were interested in the subject as well, so why not try it? They were already making behavioural changes... until all of a sudden they became vegetarians or vegans. And now today, with the decision to travel and follow my dream, many of them see that life can be more than what conventional society would have us believe, the truth is that I do not think of myself as a leader, but I do know that I'm not alone and that every act I do, will affect everyone close to me. by Ammon Felix
