The local currency is East Caribbean Dollars or officially XCD. When you arrive it is advisable to take out approx XCD 300.00 as the closest ATM is 1 hour away from RVA. You can also use USD and will then get back in XCD: USD 1.00 = XCD 2.67 approx.
Being an island in the Caribbean the Ministry of Health has decided on some guidelines to protect the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This country is the second poorest in the region next after Haiti and it would have devastating results if the Virus spread all over the islands.
The Ministry of Health has therefore decided on restrictive 2 weeks quarantine before you can go out and enjoy the beautiful nature and mingle with the Vincentians or Vincy.
This is to the benefit of all of us living here including you. This means if you plan on joining a team at Richmond Vale Academy it is to good arrive 2 weeks before the team is starting. If that is not possible then try to make it one week before.
Before you enter the airline you need to show these 3 forms to be allowed on board. Be aware to check the Covid19 rules in any other countries you travel through. They are available on the Airport or Ministry of Health website.
You will get tested on arrival and again on the 4th day of quarantine. Be sure to print the RVA arrival letter that we will send to you. After the initial 5 days quarantine you go in “home quarantine” at Richmond Vale Academy for the remaining 9 days. We will initiate contact among team members before start so you can possible arrive at the same time so you can share accommodation and this way lower the costs.
Each day you will receive an email giving feedback to the authorities whether you have any symptoms.
Be sure to bring several facemasks to protect yourself on the travel to SVG and to Richmond Vale Academy.
Keep yourself updated on this site if any other precautions should be required.
We will be helpful in our end to guide you through the process.
Warm Greetings and hope to see you!

When I left RVA I was a completely different person. I learned things that I would have learned in a 5 years program at university or I would not have learned at all. At the RVA I learned about the Garifuna history, farming, history and team work. From the experience I had while at the RVA I will say that sometimes the road gets rocky and the best thing to do is to keep moving on because somewhere ahead you will manage how to walk on the rocks.
Here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, we are attempting to become a green island, looking at energy, at the way we conserve our environment. I believe Richmond Vale Academy is one of those places where you can get the information and education and certified programs in terms of what you really need to know about helping to save this world, our planet."
Before RVA's public awareness campaign, many Vincentians did not know what permaculture was. Dreams of getting gold in a global treelympics were farfetched and plastic bottles were an environmental menace. Organic food, GMO awareness and so on were not highly extent. Through RVA's intervention with its 2012 -2021 Climate Compliance agenda, SVG is now a different nation with a more positive environmental attitude."
