Scuba Diving Gear
Mask or visorIt is the element that allows to see under the water avoiding the direct contact of salty or chlorinated water with the eyes. The mask interposes a layer of air between the eyes and water, facilitating vision. In addition to covering the eyes, it also covers the nose. It is composed of a skirt (rubber, latex or usually silicone) that adapts to the face, flat and tempered crystals, and fastening straps that hold the mask to the head. A good mask should have the following conditions:
-The visor must include the nose in its internal volume. To allow to balance pressures in immersion and to avoid the phenomenon of suction cup.
-Be sealed, so that the skirt fits snugly and comfortably to the face profile.
-For use in apnea you must have the lowest volume of air possible inside.

SnorkelThe snorkel is a plastic tube moderately flexible. That allows you to breathe on the surface with your face underwater.

Diving suitThe purpose of the diving suit is to protect the diver from hypothermia. Thermal insulation of the skin is not adapted to the aquatic environment. Because the specific water heat is lower than the air, the immersed body loses heat much faster. Then, in water below 27 ° C it is advisable to be thermally insulated; Temperatures below 22 ° C make it necessary and at 15 ° C or less, good thermal insulation is essential.
There are three basic types of insulation suits. Wetsuits, semi-dry suits and dry suits. The first is a suit made of sparkling and resistant materials (neoprene). Which form an insulating layer between the medium and the skin, but are not watertight. Its efficiency depends on the thickness of the foam and the fit to the body.
The second type of suit is like the first one but with sealing reinforcements in cuffs, ankles, neck and a zipper. Then, that diminishes the entrance of water between the suit and the skin. The last one are the dry suits, they are most effective by keeping the body out of contact with water. Greatly limiting temperature loss, and are usually combined with thermal underwear.
Dry suits are the only truly watertight suits. And their use is more complex, as they have a valve that allows them to swell underwater.

Escarpin or ChopinThey are boots or shoes of neoprene that protect the feet of the cold and the friction of the fins. Dry suits usually include their own sandals attached to the suit for added water tightness. So, these are not essential for warm temperatures.

FinsThe fins, also called flaps, flippers, or frog legs. Are two blades that extend from the feet. They allow to advance at a faster speed under water and are usually made of rubber or other synthetic materials that give them transverse stiffness and longitudinal flexibility. There are different designs and hardness of the blade that favor speed (for free diving in apnea), or power (for autonomous diving), underwater kicking.
Depending on the type of foot support the fins can be:
Open or adjustable; Attach the foot with a rubber band at the height of the Achilles tendon and allow a variable adjustment.
Closed or socks; as a rubber shoe and without possibility of variable adjustment.
The open flaps allow for the use of bulky boots with very robust soles. So, while the boots with closed fins look more like socks than a shoe, and basically have two functions: to prevent the feet from getting cold, and to prevent chafing by the friction of the feet with the fins.

Ballast beltIt is the belt where the ballast is held. Usually made up of pieces of lead or other heavy material with very negative buoyancy. So, the ballast is use to facilitate immersion and compensate for the positive buoyancy of the suit and bottle. Then, which at the end of the dive is usually almost empty. Also allows to quickly overcome the positive thrust of the rib cage full of air and facilitates the immersion in its beginning.
The ballast should not submerged the diver at rest. And after a forced expiration, the buoyancy obtained should be slightly negative.

Autonomous ScubaThis air regulator has incorporated one or more bottles of compressed air. That will supply the oxygen that the diver needs to undertake his personal journey under the waters. This technology will help us to regulate the pressure of compressed air and adjust it to the one that presents the aquatic environment. Then, we can breathe under the water without having to carry the annoying cables and tubes of supply of air from the surface.
The essential component of the autonomous scuba is the regulator. A mechanism that de-pressurizes the reservoir's breathing gas from the reservoir. So, providing it automatically in each of its inspirations at ambient pressure, regardless of the depth it is in. Now, the regulator is completely useless and does not in itself constitute an autonomous scuba if it is not coupled with a reservoir of respirable gases. So, that allow the survival of the diver underwater.
