Akwa Ibom, a Nigerian State, will be the first sub-national government to sponsor and host a Post-COP21 National Dialogue. The event, with theme "Charting A Road Map For Sustainable Environment And Creation Of Green Jobs In Akwa Ibom State", wil be held between July 26th and July 28th, 2016 and will end with a golf tournament for climate change on July 30th. The summit is set to take place at Le’Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom.

The summit, which will see "experts, intellectuals and major stakeholders in the environment" brainstorm to provide solutions for the climate change issue in the area, is of great importance for Akwa Ibom. Climate change and global warming have had serious impact in the nigerian state on social and bio-physical levels. AKWA IBOM HOSTS FIRST CLIMATE CHANGE, CLEAN ENERGY MEGA SUMMIT
The government of Akwa Ibom State, through the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, in collaboration with Water Safety Initiative Foundation, Africa Clean Energy Summit and the Environment Communications Limited, is set to host the First Akwa Ibom State Climate Change and Clean Energy Mega Summit/Expo.
The summit would anchor a number of stakeholders’ brainstorming and solution seeking sessions that would benefit the human race and the environment in Akwa Ibom State.
The organisers stated that there would be a gathering of experts, intellectuals and major stakeholders in the environment, in strategic and high-level sessions, to address issues, generate new ideas and approaches as well as chart a road map to combat the scourge of climate change in the region.
The summit, with the theme “Charting A Road Map For Sustainable Environment And Creation Of Green Jobs In Akwa Ibom State,” will hold from July 26 to July 28, 2016, with a Special Golf Tournament for Climate Change (Play Golf For Climate Change) on July 30, 2016, at the Le’Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Scientific evidence is conclusive that the earth is warming and climates are changing with serious and potentially damaging consequences.
Climate change is aggravating environmental issues such as deforestation and degradation, freshwater shortage, food security and air and water pollution. Projected increases in extreme climate events as well as more changes in the weather patterns may further threaten the means of livelihood in the face of inaction.
In Akwa Ibom State, Climate change is already affecting various sectors of the economy with serious biophysical and socio-economic impacts. Many communities in the state are in the climate frontline struggling daily to adapt to the changing climate.
Some coastal communities in Akwa Ibom State are already relocating due to sea level rise and excessive flooding – climate change is the defining issue of the 21st century.
In responding to the challenge, the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has proactively put in place measures aimed at tackling the impact of climate change in the state.
Akwa Ibom State Government was the first and only sub-national government that sponsored and hosted a Post COP 21 (Paris Climate Conference) National Dialogue.
