Horses: The Importance of Second Chances

The first time I rode a horse was almost 10 years ago. It was in a very nice landscape in La Calera; a village in Colombia where people usually make horse rides within groups. Champagne was the name of the horse that was taking me. She was white and had a beautiful blondish hair. After few minutes, Champagne started to run really fast, having me on top of her back. She had bolted and I could no longer control her; thus making me lose stability. After this experience, I hadn’t had the chance to be close enough to any horse; and to be honest, I didn’t feel like searching for a second time either. That was until the past two...

From Winstead to Africa to the Caribbean - By David Christian

This article was originally posted on CICD Volunteering Africa . MY STORY AND I AT CICD I am David Christian, from Rochdale near Manchester. I was a DI at CICD —the 14 months DI programme, in March 2011. The project was at One World University in Mozambique, where my main tasks were the library, promotion and teaching English. My first experience in a developing country; the challenges were motivating the students, communicating in Portuguese, plus coping with the lack of running water, electricity and the comfort of my old life. This is what I wanted, to change myself in this aspect; no longer remaining in my comfort zone and to be ready to face these difficulties millions of people live...

Learning the Language of Horses

Johnny's Journey I want to thank you for the opportunity of learning the language of horses. My experience with horses was an amazing one. It was full of knowledge, patience, control and observation. It was thrilling from the start, because it is about connecting —in a deep and very spiritual way— with another form of life. Learning the language of horses was very similar to learning any other language, like Portuguese or English. I completely forgot that I was learning how to comunicate with another species and just started to understand the horse's language. Understanding their language is trying to make sense out of...

If we were born in this world with the concept of "Good" or "Bad" is different depending on your country, religions or culture. In some part of the world eating beef is an offence, while in other parts of the world it's part of their culture, with this simple example we can see the differences between us. But can this difference explain why we are what we are today? Today we are living in a world that has already begun to collapse, we use more than what we have, with change climate water becomes scarce, it is winter when it used to be summer and this everywhere. Today we have discussions about how many people can live on this world?...

Carandre: I encourage you to join!

For 3.5 billion years the climate on earth has supported life allowing species to diversify and flourish. In the last 10 000 years this unusually stable climate has allowed the rise of civilization and provided a home to seven billion people but the climate systems we depend on are becoming unstable. The atmosphere is warming at an alarming rate and from the Amazon rainforest to the frozen tundra our stable climate is heading towards tipping points. Small changes in our oceans, ice sheets, or forests can tip the balance and change our world forever. Dramatic changes are happening in the world right now due to climate change. The St. Vincent Climate Compliance Conference takes concrete action to make our small island safe...

Judit - How I learned to live and love my life

I was born in 1980 on the countryside of Hungary, which definitely has determined my whole life. Since I was born I was always close to nature and animals. Our family house has its own backyard garden, which makes my family to be almost self-sufficient. I always loved the country lifestyle although I moved to the capital and lived an urban life because of my studies and work. In the last 10 years I was working in the film business and living a very stressful life. I wanted to change my way of living. I wanted to live a more honest life and open my mind. In addition to helping...

Climate Compliance Conference Pioneer

STUDENT STORY FROM SEULBEE - THE FIRST GAIA TEAM! Before my coming here, I was just a freshman of the university in my country.
