Moringa 10000

Richmond Vale Academy and its’ Climate Compliance Conference plan the next big step with a new project, which gave birth under the name of ‘MORINGA 10,000’.

The goal is to plant  – hand in hand with the people of St. Vincent – 10,000 Moringa Trees around the island of St. Vincent, within 20 different communities. The aim of the project is to bring this miracle tree to this beautiful island, to teach about creating a better health for everyone, to teach about climate change and to make a positive action towards a better future for all on this beautiful planet.

Moringa 10,000

Around Christmas time 2013, Richmond Vale Academy – teachers and activists – will go out to the public with the tree planting action in St. Vincent. 10,000 trees will be planted in 20 different villages all around this beautiful island. Together with mobilized people we will give birth to a new St. Vincent.

Getting Started Today

The Tree Planting Action will take place later, but we are kicking off the action already now in August. The Tree Nursery is getting a shape, soil is being prepared, the irrigation system is getting installed and the first trees are being planted. At the same time the project plan is getting more concrete and the next steps are being decided on.

A Miracle Tree

The Tree can help improving health of anyone who decides to take the benefits. Moringa can play an important role in the agricultural development of the island and for some Moringa could be a huge opportunity to generate a better income.

The Moringa Olifeira Tree is widely spread in developing countries, and is a true miracle of mother Earth. The tree has multiple purposes and the benefits are unimaginable.  There are extremely high nutritional benefits, the tree is a perfect animal fodder, it can be used as a natural fertilizer, the seeds can be used to clean water, etc.

The nutritional value, using the tree in our diet, is incredibly high. 100 gram of dry Moringa leafs contain twice the Vitamin A of carrots, 7 times the Vitamin C of oranges, 17 times the Calcium of milk, 15 times the Potassium of bananas, 25 times the Iron of spinach and 7 times the Protein of yoghurt.

Extracts of the Moringa leafs can be used as a fertilizer to spray on plants and has shown an increase of 25 to 30% in different crops. The leaves, branches and drumsticks can be used as animal food. It will help your animals to grow stronger than with any traditional animal feed. And since the tree grows much faster than traditional trees, it can provide animal food the whole year through.

St. Vincent

Having studied this Tree for a while and knowing the results from friends abroad, we want to bring now this tree to life in St Vincent and the Grenadines. In different countries in the Caribbean area, Moringa projects have started and have been successful. As far as we know today, there are only very few trees on the island and they are not being used to full potential. Therefore, because we want to share this miracle of nature with this beloved country, we are starting up the massive campaign to teach about this Tree for Life.

Climate

The Tree Planting action obviously goes hand in hand with the Climate Compliance Conference – 10 years for GAIA. Trees are the lungs of our planet, and we need to plant more. Massive deforestation – that happened since the industrial revolution up until today – has removed more than half of the Earth’s forests and little is being done to replace the trees that are cut down.  Inspired by movements such as The Green Belt Movement, we decide to follow up in their footsteps and plant trees for a better future for all, together with everyone who has a heart for mother Earth.  Together we are Planting for a better Planet.

In the course of history, there comes a time when humanity is called to shift to a new level of consciousness, to reach a higher moral ground. A time when we have to shed our fear and give hope to each other. Therefore, today we decide to plant trees. When we plant trees, we plant the seeds of peace and the seeds of Hope. “
- Wangari Maathai, Nobel Peace Laureate 2004.
